The School of Engineering at the University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus invites applications to fill one (1) full-time research stream faculty position within its Civil Engineering Program. Applicants will be considered for the ranks of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (tenure-track or tenured), commensurate with their experience, accomplishments, and teaching and/or research expertise in water resources engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, and related fields. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027 or a date to be mutually agreed upon.

Eligibility and duties

Applicants must hold a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in a field related to Civil engineering and either be registered, or be eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (https://www.egbc.ca) within five years of appointment. The successful applicant(s) will be expected to establish an independent and internationally recognized research program at the University, teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise master's (M.A.Sc.) and doctoral (Ph.D.) students, and provide service to the School, University, and community.

 Appointment eligibility at each rank is defined as follows:

·  Assistant Professor: Appointment to this rank requires completion of academic and/or professional qualifications, with evidence of ability and commitment in teaching and scholarly activity. The teaching must show potential for excellence in both instructing and supervising undergraduate and graduate students. The scholarly activity must show potential towards securing external research funding, carrying out high-impact (national and international) research, and disseminating such research via peer-reviewed publications and/or alternative forms of knowledge dissemination. The successful applicant(s) must also be willing to participate in the affairs of the School and University. Applicants who will have successfully defended their doctoral (Ph.D.) dissertation by the position start date will be considered. The annual salary range is $120,000 - $140,000.

·  Associate Professor: Appointment at this rank requires demonstrated success in teaching, a growing body of productive scholarly activity, and willingness to participate in the affairs of the School and University. The teaching must reflect a high level of excellence at undergraduate and graduate levels as well as effective supervision and mentorship of graduate students. The scholarly activity must show evidence towards securing external research funding, carrying out high-impact (national and international) research, and disseminating such research via peer-reviewed publications and/or alternative forms of knowledge dissemination. For tenure consideration, the successful candidate must also have maintained a high standard of performance in meeting the above criteria and show promise of continuing to do so. The annual salary range is $140,000 - $190,000.
